The most popular social media in Poland in 2020

Every day millions of Poles regularly use many different social networks. We browse posts on our wall, check what’s new with our friends, see photos published by people we follow, check notifications, read tweets published by websites we regularly use. In a word, we devote many hours a day to this form of entertainment.

Have you ever thought about how the list of the most popular social networking sites in our country looks like?? We suppose not. If this is the case, today we will make it easier for you by giving you a list of the most popular social media in Poland.

The most popular social media in Poland in 2021

Before we move on to describe the most popular social media sites in our country, we must point out that usually specialists use two different criteria to assess popularity. One of them is the number of people visiting a given website daily – and only the so-called “unique users” are counted, i.e. individuals who open a given page, and not the views of all the subpages of a website (the latter value does not really tell us anything interesting). The second criterion is a parameter that we can somewhat jokingly call “man-hours”. – which is the average time spent by each user on a given website.

Specialists repeatedly argue about which parameter is more important, but today we will focus only on popularity understood as the number of visits, the time spent by users will be treated as information of secondary importance. So here are the most popular social media in Poland in 2021:

We are sure that the leading position should not be a surprise to anyone. Facebook has been the most popular social network in our country for about 10 years. Every year it takes the first place in every ranking, having a gigantic advantage over the rest of the stakes. There is not much to say, let the numbers speak for themselves. In 2020, Facebook was used daily by more than 73.5% of all Internet users in Poland, and this value grew to 94% on a monthly basis. In other words, for every 100 people who connected to the Internet at least once during the month, as many as 94 visited their Facebook account.

In terms of absolute values, the service created by Mark Zuckenberg is visited daily by nearly 16 million Poles. Facebook is also the clear leader in terms of average daily time spent on it. The average user spends over an hour per day on Facebook – 63 minutes to be exact.

Probably most people on the second position expected Instagram, but here the situation looks a little different. Youtube is also a social network in the full sense of the word, so it should also be taken into account. Every day Youtube is visited by about 12 million people, which constitutes 70,5% of all Internet users in Poland. A certain curiosity may be the monthly indicator, because here we do not notice such a clear jump as in the case of Facebook. Well, 72% of Internet users visit Youtube at least once a month.

Much lower is also the time spent each day watching videos on Youtube, because it is on average 42 minutes. This is quite surprising, as intuitively it might seem that we spend much less time on Facebook, while watching videos on YouTube is more time-consuming. Well, the statistics show the opposite.

Only in third place in terms of popularity in 2020 is Instagram, so popular among Poles. About 11 million people visit it every day, which is less than 65% of all Internet users. Moreover, we spend on average 26 minutes a day on Instagram. On a monthly basis, the percentage of visitors to Instagram is 82%, so it is noticeably higher than the second place Youtube. This is where you can best see the importance of the criteria chosen to determine the order of the list.

Interestingly, experts say that the decline in Instagram’s popularity compared to 2019 may be related to restrictions related to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic. Simplifying the whole issue, it may be due to the fact that we do not go to restaurants and cafes, nor do we go on vacation to exotic regions, so we can not flood Instagram with photos of places visited, or meals eaten to boast to friends!

Twitter is quite a curiosity, because this Internet service actually offers a very limited functionality in comparison with the above mentioned big three – as we probably know, it allows only to exchange short text messages, sometimes containing photos or short videos. Nevertheless, its effectiveness in reaching a wide audience in a short time translates into high popularity in our country, as well as around the world.

On the fifth place of our ranking comes a social medium specific to our market, which is Wykop. This is a website which is intended to be a local copy of Reddit, but on the Polish market it has gained a gigantic popularity – while its original, i.e. Reddit, is practically non-existent in our statistics, occupying a place somewhere in the middle of the second hundred most popular websites. Suffice it to say that being a rather hermetic service in terms of subject matter, the paranormal forum.pl surpasses Reddit in terms of popularity very significantly.

Coming back to Wykop, every day this site is visited by about 2.5 million people, on a monthly basis this result grows to 4 million users. Is it a good result? As for the site unknown outside the borders of our country is even impressive!
