Can social media marketing affect page ranking?

Whether you are an avid Instagrammer, Facebooker, Snapchatter or not – it is worthwhile for you to know what social media can be used for. If you are in marketing and running your own business, you are always looking for new customers to increase your sales. If your efforts aren’t yielding the results you’re looking for, maybe it’s time to invest in social media marketing.

Improve your position in Google thanks to social media

Although social media does not have a direct impact on your website’s search engine ranking, good marketing on social media will make your website rank better. SEO is not only about key phrases, but also about acquiring links and building traffic around your site, which you can gain just by social media users.

Speed is what counts in internet marketing

Social media have the feature that they work very quickly on the principle of “action-reaction”. The effects of good marketing are visible immediately, but only through systematic work of the whole team can they be maintained for longer. A skillfully created post can generate a lot of traffic, and above all interaction with users. You wonder how it’s possible? The answer is simple. Social media profiles in themselves do not affect the positioning of the site, but they will contribute to increasing the popularity of the brand, its recognition, and thus building trust in relation to the company.

Building communities

What makes social media different from Google robots and SEO is the social aspect. Apart from „buying likes”, which we obviously don’t support, it’s hard to get people to react in a certain way, to fake comments or their ratings. This is why so many users rely on “stars” awarded to e.g. catering establishments on Facebook. If most people say that a certain pizzeria has the best pizza in Cracow, it means that you have to try it.

Social media sites are also used to quickly connect with potential or actual customers. Sites like Facebook are often replacing search engines and becoming search engines themselves. That’s why every company should have a profile in order to be found. On platforms such as Facebook or Google+ users can post opinions that will encourage or discourage people to use the services of a given company. However, in order for a profile created on Facebook to be displayed in Google search results, it must be set to “public”. For Fan Pages, these settings are automatic, but keep this in mind when setting up company discussion groups or user profiles.

Although it is hard to be completely sure what influences the ranking of websites in Google (there is an opinion that only algorithms know it and no one else), you cannot ignore the social platform created by Google itself: Google+. Experts say that a profile on this channel, although not very popular, has a much greater impact on ranking and SEO than a profile on Facebook.

Did you know that Google has already had an agreement with Twitter since 2005 to acquire information? The Google giant cares about having reliable and verified news, so it pulls information from Twitter to stay on top of its news. Twitter has different functions all over the world – in Poland it works well as a source of information on national politics. Depending on who your target audience is, you may want to invest in a strong company Twitter account. Having a large number of followers, your profile will be displayed at the top of Google search results.

Social media vs. link acquisition

Social media channels have the advantage that it is easy to include links in various posts and share any news with your customers and followers. Link building affects the credibility and position of your website in Google. Using social media profiles for this purpose is not directly beneficial, but it can bring positive effects. Facebook posts have nofollow links. However, Facebook has a larger user reach, so you can count on your post and link to reach other, larger sites, users or industry professionals who want to share it with their audience. In such a simple way your post with a link can even reach an external portal or internet forum. This will generate a lot of traffic to your site and increase your conversion rate.

Don’t give up!

Internet marketing in social media is a job for the persistent. Building a trusted audience can take some time. Make sure to attract more and more observers – share, interact with users, do not forget to comment from the video profile, especially on those larger and more popular industry sites. If your message is substantive, non-intrusive, and useful, you’ll gain virtually zero cost in ‘shares’ – others sharing your links and posts.
